OUR GOAL
We, Iluminar Coffee, along with Uncommon and Scout, took the iniative a step further by collaborating amongst ourselves to team up with Felipe Trujillo and his mentee, Andres Cardona, to create what became the mentorship blend.
BEHIND THE PRODUCERS
Felipe is an esteemed pioneer in coffee production internationally, and has noteably invested his time into educating other producers like Andres who has become one of his most dedicated mentees.
Andres, a now internationally known producer, became a mentor after graduating from the program last season.
He currently runs his family farm, Finca Villa Lucia in Santa Barbara, Colombia, while also collaborating with Felipe on experimental coffee production.
With their relationship in mind, our release was coined the mentorship blend.
MY ROLE
was to concieve of a product design that effectively communicated the story and intention behind our collaboration and the importance of its creation at large.
BEHIND THE DESIGN
A picture of the old barnhouse I came across in Cornwall, VT that would become the bones of my design.
I was drawn to the idea of framing the design with some sort of farm-like structure characteristic of Vermont landscapes.
The project demonstrates the meeting of minds and collective efforts. As such, I wanted to illustrate a dynamic story that pulls in elements of each step from farm to cup to create one cohesive scene.
Snapshots of elements that were both stylistically and physically integrated into the design.
Uncommon (Image 1 & 2) has a unique atmosphere conducive to an ecletic style and place-based design scape. Scout (Image 3 & 4) has a colorful asthetic similar to Iluminar and a great cafe space to be depicted.
THE DESIGN
The final design portrays a amalgamation of of the various interactions within the coffee's journey to the cup. Coffee trees and cherries throughout the design are intended to echo its origins while elements of cafe spaces and the roasting process.
Layout of the 4x6 back label.
Coffee details are formatted to concurrently highlight their individual characteristics and their convergence. The majority of space is dedicated to showcasing the purpose of the blend and its various layers of collaboration.
